The Junior Original Concert (JOC) is a unique activity that features students of the Yamaha Music Education System under the age of 16. This event gives these young musicians the opportunity to unlock their full musical potential by composing original pieces and performing them in front of enthusiastic audiences.

The first JOC was held in Nemu-no-Sato, Japan in 1972. Since then JOC concerts have been held in 28 countries. In Canada, Yamaha presents National JOC and National JOC camp in alternate years. Regional as well as class JOCs have been taken place in Yamaha classrooms around Canada- providing an opportunity for students to participate in live performance.

Every year, students from the 3rd year of the Yamaha program will be encourage to take part in learning to create their own composition. With the help of their teachers, their composition will be performed and be recorded. Selected compositions will be submitted to Yamaha Canada where evaluation and selection process for National JOC begins.
