Pearl Drums is a multinational corporation with a wide range of products, primarily percussion instruments, based in Japan. In 1946, Katsumi Yanagisawa began manufacturing music stands in Sumida, Tokyo. It wasn’t until 1950 when Yanagisawa shifted his focus to the manufacturing of drums and named his company "Pearl Industry, Ltd". By 1953, the company began expanding their manufacturing to include, drum kits, marching drums, cymbals, stands, Latin percussion instruments and accessories.
Drum sets such as the Pearl Roadshow, Export Series, Masterworks 4-piece Shell Pack, Masters Maple, and e/Merge e/Hybrid electronic kits have been used and loved by many around the world. Today, Pearl offers various options in electronic drums and acoustic drum sets, hi-hats, cymbal stands, drum pedals, double-pedals, metal tongue drums, toms, cajons, hand percussion and drum hardware. All Pearl drums feature a construction technique is known as SST or "Superior Shell Technology". Each ply is placed into a cylinder, and pressure is applied from both sides. While in the press, the shell is heated to bring the glue to a boil, thus forcing it through the wood grain and fusing the shells very tightly. The individual plies are scarf jointed, and all the seams are offset, resulting in a "seamless" drum. It is undeniable that this foundation creates a drum shell that guarantees incredible strength.
