Mount Royal University’s Conservatory will get the keys to its new building this week when experts move more than 75 pianos to the Taylor Centre for the Performing Arts.

Throughout the week, Extreme Piano Moving is transporting one-of-a-kind custom pianos that are valued at up to $250,000, including a new Hamburg Steinway piano that was handpicked from Germany purchased from the Steinway Piano Gallery Calgary.

The instruments will be disassembled on Mount Royal’s Lincoln Park campus, transferred inside climate-controlled trucks and put back together at the Conservatory’s new home across from the University’s main building, in time for the Morningside Music Bridge International Music Festival to start July 2.

Once the ivories are in place, professional staff will tune anywhere from 10 to 15 pianos per day.
