VANCOUVER, B.C.: MAY 07, 2012 -- VSO conductor Bramwell Tovey leads school children, May 7th, in the singing of "Tomorrow is Coming" as part of the Music Monday performance at Robson Square. Over 600,000 students from across Canada performed the song.

More than 200 schoolchildren gathered at the steps of Robson Square Plaza to sing "Tomorrow is Coming" by Canadian artist Luke Doucet. VSO maestro Bramwell Tovey conducted the performance for Music Monday 2012, an annual event involving more than 600,000 students across Canada singing the same song to raise awareness about the importance in music education.

"Music Monday exists to celebrate the galvanizing power of music and demonstrate how that power is rooted in school music programs," Tovey wrote in the May 7 edition of the Sun.

"Rather, they are at the core of a well-rounded education. At the VSO we believe an education without a significant musical component is no education at all."

Our most important goal with Music Monday is to celebrate the galvanizing power of music in Canada and demonstrate how that power is rooted in school music programs. We are creating an event that can be used as a platform to inspire public celebration, awareness and discussion every year. We want to provide a tangible demonstration of how music programs shape young lives and the fun young people have in making music.

We want to show the important links between school music programs, their communities and the cultural vitality of this country. And finally, it is our hope that the public, particularly parents, are encouraged to actively support quality music education, and that our administrators will make the right decisions for our children and education – an education that includes music as a pillar to a well-balanced educational experience.y dependent on creativity.”
