Fireface UFX II
60-Channel USB-B Audio/MIDI Interface with SteadyClock FS
The RME Fireface UFX II is a flexible USB 2.0 audio interface that provides a total of 60 channels (30-in / 30-out) of crystal-clear and transparent audio at resolutions up to 24-bit / 192 kHz. It features four digitally controlled preamps, reference-class AD/DA converters, SteadyClock FS jitter-immune digital clocking, and ultralow-latency operation, and is ideal for recording, mixing, and monitoring applications, in high-end home studios and commercial audio production facilities.
The Fireface UFX II offers a full range of digital connectivity options including AES3/SPDIF, ADAT, 5-pin MIDI, and Wordclock I/Os. The interface can operate as a standalone device and can be fully configured / set up at the device by using the three rotary encoders and the color display. It comes equipped with TotalMix FX, a real-time mixer driven by two powerful DSP processors, which allows for practically unlimited mixing and routing operations, and Dolby Atmos compatibility with Room EQ functionality. DURec (Direct USB Recording) lets you record all inputs and outputs directly to USB thumb drives or hard drives, without the need for a computer. The advanced plug-and-play technology guarantees a simple installation and ease of operation, even for the inexperienced user.
Full-Range Audio Capture without Compromises
- Four digitally controlled high-transparency preamps feed eight A/D converters—every microphone channel uses double/parallel A/D conversion on two A/D converters at the same time to reach an exceptional signal-to-noise ratio and performance level not available with classic converter design.
- Pad-free microphone circuit design with +18 dBu max input level and 75 dB gain range.
- Low-impedance high-power headphone outputs (2 ohms) with +19 dBu maximum output level provide ample output power and volume on any high- or low-impedance headphones.
- 2 high-speed low-jitter MIDI I/O (32 channels).
- Bright multifunctional color display with full front-panel metering for all 60 channels and the effect bus, and complete control of all key features directly from the front of the UFX II.
- Setup Recall—internal memory allows for the permanent storage of six different states of the unit.
SteadyClock FS, Reference-Class Digital Clocking
- With SteadyClock FS, the focus is on reducing the self jitter of the original SteadyClock to new lows by improving its second analog PLL circuit and referencing both Direct Digital Synthesis and PLL to a low-phase-noise quartz crystal—reaching jitter specs in the FemtoSecond range (hence SteadyClock FS).
- Being completely independent from the quality of the incoming clock signal, SteadyClock FS consistently provides the highest audio quality.
Flexible Routing and Mixing with TotalMix FX
- TotalMix FX, a real-time mixer driven by two powerful DSP processors, allows for practically unlimited mixing and routing operations.
- The software offers 3-band parametric EQ, echo, reverb, compressor, expander, and auto-level for any output, and can completely replace an external mixer by creating multiple latency-free monitor, or headphone mixes. With TotalMix FX for iPad app (available separately), TotalMix FX can be controlled from an iPad.
Room EQ and Binaural Crossed for Immersive Audio
- The integration of Room EQ to TotalMix FX adds room calibration to the RME eco-system, making your Fireface perfect for Immersive audio setups including Dolby ATMOS. Room EQ consists of nine bands of fully parametric EQ, individual output delay, and volume calibration. Users can freely assign up to twenty 20 Room EQs at once to any output(s) they wish including stereo, headphone, and digital outputs for maximum flexibility. Settings can be input manually or imported using tools like Sonarworks or Room EQ Wizard.
- Also added is a feature called Binaural Crossed. This functionality provides speaker emulation in headphones—perfect for mixing stereo or ATMOS in headphones. The Crossfeed function emulates speaker behavior in terms of channel separation so extremely wide ambience experienced in headphones can be set in 5 stages.
DC-Coupled Outputs: CV/Gate Voltage Control
- All of the Fireface UFX II’s line-level outputs are fully DC-coupled, enabling you to send control voltages (CV) or Gate information to modular synthesizers (such as the popular Eurorack and Moog/MOTM/Synthesizers formats) and other studio hardware.
DigiCheck Software: The Secret Weapon of High-Resolution Audio Measurements
- DigiCheck, for metering, testing, measuring and analyzing digital audio streams. 2-, 8-, or all-channel level meters with countless options.
- Spectral Analyzer, Goniometer, and Bit Statistics in professional quality. Even Channel Status readouts are possible.
- Under Windows, DigiCheck also offers a global record function and the direct readout of playback data.
ARC USB Remote Control: Plug-and-Play Plus
- The ARC USB (available separately) is a USB 1.1 MIDI remote control for the Fireface UFX II.
- Thanks to operating as a UAC 1 class device, it is natively compatible to Windows and macOS. It features 15 freely assignable and illuminated buttons, one encoder wheel, and a TS jack to connect a footswitch.
- TotaIMix FX will automatically detect the ARC USB and communicate with it via simple MIDI remote commands to control the UFX II.
DURec (Direct USB Recording)
- DURec is an integrated digital recorder for all inputs and outputs directly to USB memory devices via the front USB port. The Fireface UFX III records on USB thumb drives or hard drives with up to 2TB capacity. The recording functionality is provided by the internal DSP, independent from a connected computer.
- The Direct USB Recording converts the Fireface UFX Series both into a standalone field recorder and a powerful multichannel live player for previous recordings.
