Flute

Have you ever blown across the top of a water or pop bottle to make a sound? The flute works exactly the same way! The sound is produced by blowing a small, focused and fast stream of air across the sound hole.

The player holds the flute out to their right to blow across the sound hole and is able to change notes by using their fingers to close or cover holes in various combinations along the length of the instrument.

The flute is one of the oldest musical instruments on the planet and is a member of the Woodwind Family. It produces a beautiful, clear sound and plays the highest notes in the Band – it is often used to play the melody!
