Hit some pads, tweak the knobs and your track will start to emerge, all locked in time and key. Play around with effects, patterns and sounds in real time, to produce your track, brimming with fat grooves and beats.
Compact and battery powered with a convenient built-in speaker, Circuit can be used to make music entirely on its own. In the studio it will work alongside your standalone synth gear and run in sync with your music softwaretoo. In short, it's all you need to inspire, create and play new tunes.
Ideas in Seconds. Tracks in Minutes
Circuit inspires, straight out the box. It combines a 2-part synthesiser and a 4-part drum machine with a 4x8 RGB velocity-sensitive grid sequencer, which will have you finding new musical directions and creating electronic grooves in no time.
Compact and battery-powered, Circuit truly stands alone. You can create entire tunes from scratch without a laptop, then save them and play them back live. You don’t even need speakers, because it has a one built in. Of course, Circuit will plug in to your sound system and work with your computer and other synth gear too, via its Line outputs, USB and MIDI ports.
Cutting Edge Sound
Building on our true Nova heritage, Circuit delivers cutting-edge sound with production-ready monophonic and polyphonic patches and tons of character for easily creating deep bass lines, epic leads and warm pads.
Build Ideas Quickly
Embrace a new way to make music. Circuit's split grid shows your steps and notes at the same time, so you can sequence and play while seeing exactly what's going on. Build up your parts quickly and easily, either by programming each step or capturing your performance in real-time.
Combine Simplicity and Experimentation
Use simple streamlined modes to keep your harmonies, rhythms and melodies locked in time and key while you make riffs, hooks and chords. Or start experimenting for some serious sequencing exploration.
Looking for the Perfect Beat?
Velocity sensitive RGB pads let you quickly build expressive drum beats, by step sequencing or playing the wide range of drum sounds. Define your sound with total control over pitch, decay, distortion and EQ.
Easily Tweak Your Sound
Sculpt your sound using eight macro knobs allowing you to subtly tweak or completely transform each patch. Then add movement and rhythm by recording or sequencing your performance.
Build Whole Tunes with Effects
Create an entire tune by combining up to 128 steps of synth and drum patterns, then adding space, depth and energy to your music with built-in effects. Sidechain your synths to the kick drum to get them to pump. When you’re done, save your tune to one of 32 slots
Free and discounted synthesizers and effects available every two months, when you purchase and register any Novation product.
What’s In The Box
Circuit Firmware updates – Features
Capturesynth and drum tracks directly to micro-steps, representing even your most rhythmically complex ideas in alltheir atemporal glory. From wonky Dilla-style beats and quick-fire fills to authentic-sounding strums and beyond.
With six micro-steps to every full step, you’ve got plenty of resolution for repositioning notes off the grid, enabling the programming of subtle timing tweaks, fast triplets and more.
Notes recorded over other notes on the same step maintain their velocities independently, andyou can manually edit those velocities after the fact.
Set Synth 1, Synth 2 and Drums to whichever MIDI channels you like, from 1 to 15, forincreased flexibility when integrating Circuit into your broader studio setup.
The Pattern Chain Sequence function allows for up to 32 patterns and 16 chains of patterns to be selected in any order. Patterns and chains can be repeated, and sequences can be build up and easily navigated between. The append setting can be toggled to add patterns and chains to an existing pattern sequence, even when playing.
Each step has a tie-forward setting, making it possible to tie notes together in order to create drone notes and long ambient pads.
Take music off the grid by delaying notes on a step from one to five ticks (each step is divided up into six ticks). Use Synth Micro-nudge to create new, more complex rhythms like triplets across the beat
Panning has been the single most requested feature of the community to date. It enables users to create audio landscapes or integrate with their favorite hardware.
Using Drum Micro Steps as a beat-building tool, Circuit v1.6 adds instant fills and stutter effects to users’ workflows, re triggering a sample up to six times within each step.
Is Circuit’s brightness intruding when the room darkens? Light Dim will help to set the mood for all sorts of romantic occasions with its brightness setting.
Used to mute any unwanted FX, making it easier to connect with external hardware processors.
We’ve given the gate sequencer six times more precision per step. Version 1.5 enables staccato steps to be programmed per-step and increases variance in melody creation.
Improved gate functionality
The improved gate functionality makes it a great choice as a sequencer to drive a modular system, as well as it having two inbuilt synth engines (six-voice), and a sampler built-in.
Synth Patch Preview
Synth Patch Preview means that anyone can listen to synth patches directly from the selection view: poly patches play the root, third and fifth notes of the current scale and key, while mono patches play the root note.
MIDI CC Send and Receive
Circuit 1.5 also features MIDI CC Send and Receive, which means MIDI CC data can be turned on or off to prevent any unwanted parameter changes. Circuit Mono Station also comes with MIDI CC Send and Receive so you can choose what MIDI information you want to share between both devices.
Polyrhythmic Drum Patterns
You can now set the length of your drum patterns individually to create mind-bending cross-rhythms and pattern variations.
Instant Pattern Switch
Change patterns instantly and combine with automation for glitchy drum fills and beat repeats.
Session Colour Select
Now available from the unit; change your Session colour when saving.
Improved setup page with more versatile MIDI control. Separate transmit and receive settings for MIDI clock.
All-new samples, synth patches and sessions to completely transform your Circuit. Use Components to load the new Circuit Pack and, of course, backup your existing work.
The Sample Flip function lets you create multi-sample drum lines on each of Circuit's drum tracks. Select a different sample for each step in all four of the drum tracks. So for example, you can have a kick and a snare on 'Drum1', freeing up other tracks for additional instrumentation or sample playback.
This feature lets you play and preview your samples without programming them into a pattern. In the studio, this speeds up the drum-programming process immensely due to the speed at which you can audition sounds. On stage, you can live-play any sample along to your existing drum patterns, using Circuit's velocity sensitive pads.
Using the Circuit Librarian —part of the Components suite of browser-based tools, you can change the color of the LED that represents your Session on the Circuit hardware. This means you can use colors to differentiate styles —pink for house, orange for Techno, for example —or to discern between different sections of your songs: green for intros, purple for main sections, say. Also with Circuit v1.3 is the facility to manage sessions individually, rather than in a batch of 32.
You can now change the placement of your samples so you can, for example, group similar sounds together to make it easier to remember which sample is on which pad. For example, you could have kick drums on row 1; snares on row 2; vocal snippets on row 3.
