Vera Lu
Vera Lu is 9 years old. She started playing piano at 6 and became a students of Dr. Victor Shevtsov in 2008.
Since that time Vera has won:
- First Prize in Richmond Music Festival 2008
- First Prize in Russian Music Festival 2009
- Three First Prizes in Kiwanis Music Festival 2009
- First Prize and L'Union-Vie Groupe financier scholarship in CMC National Finals 2009 in Montreal (9 years old category)
Vera is a participant of Wonder Child Showcase Concert 2009 and Young Stars Festival 2009
Jovian Cheng
Seventeen year old Jovian Cheng began his early music studies with Peggy Yip in Richmond, and has also taken classes with Ian Parker. Since July of 2006 he has been a student of Dr. Sasha Starcevich.
Jovian is a gold medal recipient and winner in the 2009 Seattle Young Artists Music Festival. He has also been the first prize winner in the 2007 Canadian Music Competition Finals in Quebec, the grand prize winner in the 2008 CBC Radio’s “Battle of Beethoven”, a multiple scholarship winner at local festivals such as the Richmond Music Festival, Coquitlam Music Festival, Kiwanis Music Festival, and Music Man Festivals. Most recently, Jovian was awarded first place at the 2009 Performing Arts BC in Prince Rupert as the Senior Piano Representative from the Coquitlam District Music Festival. He has performed as a soloist with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and the Vancouver Metropolitan Orchestra directed both by Ken Hsieh. Jovian has also performed with the Philharmonia Northwest Orchestra under the direction of Roupen Shakarian and performed on the National CBC Radio in Canada. He was the Intermediate and Senior Piano Representative at the BC Festival of the Arts in 2005 and 2008 respectively. Jovian is currently going into the twelfth grade at Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School, and is considering a career in music.
Trevor Hoffmann
Trevor Hoffmann is an 18 year old first year student at Douglas College on a full entrance Piano Performance scholarship. He is planning to major in composition and continue his studies in music at UBC. He currently studies piano with Dan Wardrope and Ellen Silverman as well as composition with Doug Smith.
Trevor has performed regularly around the Lower Mainland including performances at the 10th, 11th and 12th Fall Piano Concert at Swan E Set hosted by the advanced students of Dan Wardrope. This annually sold out benefit concert has raised many thousands of dollars for the BC Cancer Foundation and World Vision. Trevor has also shared the stage with several world-class pianists including multiple grammy award winner Johnny Fairchild. Along with his performing schedule, Trevor has also written scores for short films and documentaries that have received screen time throughout Canada and has written solo piano works as well. He is on the final stage of completing his Teacher's ARCT and recently completed the Intermediate Pedagogy with a First Class Honours with Distinction mark. He also maintains a private teaching studio where he thoroughly enjoys working with younger students and sharing with them the many joys of music.
