Raveen Dissanayake
My name is Raveen Dissanayake and I am 7 years old. I am a grade 2 student at James Thompson Elementary School, Richmond, BC. I have been studying at Tom Lee music school since September, 2009. I first started composing music in the fall of 2011 after I started the JSAC 1 program. My first big composition was "Royal Dance". My most recent composition is called Gallopa Adventura (a galloping adventure) where I told all about my amazing horse riding adventure up a volcanic mountain in Costa Rica in the summer of 2012. I look forward to playing this piece at the Regional JOC in Vancouver. At the moment I play piano music because I enjoy the sound of it and my Yamaha Clavinova Piano allows me to explore my passion for music to the fullest.
Ethan Wang
My name is Ethan Wang. I am 8 years old. I am a Grade 2 student in Howard Debeck Elementary School in Richmond BC. I started playing piano when I was four and I have been studying at Tom Lee music school for 1 year and currently in JSAC II class. I first started composing at age 6 and I have written up two songs now. The most recent composition I wrote is called “Creepy Cat in Action”. When I was practicing the G minor scale with two hands in parallel motion, I found a motif that sounds like a creepy cat. I was also inspired by a "Tom and Jerry" story when Tom was sneaking in to get food and was afraid the owner would find him. When I grow up, I would like to be a composer like Mr. Christopher Norton and let others play my song. I would also like to be a scientist when I grow up.
Benita Cui
I am 10 years old and am a Grade 4 student in L'ecole Bilingue. I have been studying in Tom Lee Music since I was 4 years old with the Junior Music Course 1. Presently I am in JSAC4 class. I started my first composition when I was 6 years old. I have completed 3 compositions so far. My recent composition is "Sunrise Over the Rocky Mountain”. My motif was created from the Yamaha music camp last year when I made my first trip to Banff with my family. I was impressed by the mountains, ice field, waterfalls and Lake Louise. Our classes in the camp had spectacular view of the Rocky Mountain. It's so beautiful. When I grow up, I want to be a music teacher like my favourite Music teacher, Ms. Rebecca Cheng.

For this year, her composition is called:”The Dream Land”. She loves to day dream and the music shows her dreams. She wants to keep composing and enjoying music.
Jason Wong
am 11 years old. I am currently studying in the third year of the Junior Advance Course (JAC) at the Tom Lee Music Learning Centre in Richmond, BC. My hobbies are playing basketball, playing Minecraft, and reading science books. I began my music studies at 4 years old with the JMC program with Miss Rebecca Chan at Tom Lee Music. Presently I am in the 3rd year of JAC program. I started my first composition "A Cat and A Mouse in the Haunted House" when I was in JMC 3 in 2008. My second composition was "Treasure Hunt" and was selected for the final stage of the JOC applications process in 2010. In my first year of JAC, I had the honour to be invited to perform my third piece of composition "A Day in Candyland" in the 2011 Canada National JOC held in Calgary. This was an amazing and unforgettable experience. My fourth piece "Pocket Monte-Carlo" was composed in 2011 when I was in JAC2.
This year, I am very proud to be invited to perform my fifth composition "Here Comes the Garlic Lovin' Vampire" in the Regional JOC in Vancouver on April 28, 2013. I was inspired to write a combination of mysterious and romantic song when I visited a hotel in Banff after the JOC Camp last year. A mysterious feeling came suddenly when I walked in the hallway and I was thinking what if a vampire came in front of me? "Garlic!" It is garlic that vampires are afraid of so this inspired my creativity to compose a song about a vampire who loves garlic and has a very romantic time with his girlfriend who is loving garlic, too.
I am so lucky to have an awesome piano teacher, Miss Rebecca Chan. She is experienced, patient and full of passion in music. She teaches and inspires me a lot in my music life. In the future, I will work extra hard to compose more songs and finish the Yamaha Grade 6 exam.
